The Earthquaker Devices Special Cranker is a fully analogue overdrive pedal from Akron, Ohio, that is ideally suited to give an already distorted sound from the amp or pedal the final touch and bite. Here, the discrete circuitry not only provides controls for Level, More and Tone to adjust the sound, but also two selectable clipping diodes and the innovative Flexi-Switching.
The analogue, discrete circuitry of the Special Cranker promises a wide sound spectrum between rich clean boost and creamy mid-gain overdrive. The Mode switch selects between germanium and silicon clipping diodes to achieve a softer and transparent or a modern, highly brilliant basic sound. More control, on the other hand, determines the degree of distortion via the BIAS of the transistor, whereby noise and spurious sounds can occur when turning it due to the circuitry. Last but not least, the Tone control adjusts the treble content of the signal, while the Level determines the volume of the Earthquaker Devices guitar pedal.
Of course, Earthquaker Devices equips the Special Cranker with the innovative Flexi-Switching system. Briefly pressing the footswitch switches the pedal permanently on and off via the relay-controlled true bypass. If, on the other hand, the footswitch is held down, the pedal switches to momentary mode, which activates the distortion until the footswitch is released.
