The Shure SM7B is a cardioid dynamic microphone with a frequency response of 50 to 13,000Hz (@ -3db). It is ideal for vocal and speech recordings. Due to its exceptionally clear and warm output, the SM7B has already made a name for itself in numerous radio stations and has also found its way into countless music studios as a vocal microphone. With its dynamic design, it is also very popular as a microphone for recording guitar and bass amplifiers.
The SM7B is an absolute classic among dynamic microphones and an excellent choice for studio, broadcast and live applications.
Caution: The microphone has a very low output level * A powerful, low-noise preamplifier should therefore be used, especially when recording vocals. The Preamps built into most audio interfaces are not sufficient for this. A common method is to use a small plug-on preamp or inline preamp. Alternatively, an external preamplifier with high gain reserves such as the ART Tube MP, the Black Lion Audio B12A or a Neve clone from Warm Audio or Golden Age Project is recommended. to exploit the full potential of the Shure SM7B, you should not cut corners here!
*In fact, this is not because the SM7B is a large diaphragm microphone, as is often wrongly assumed, but because the microphone has no output transformer, which is normally used for level boosting.
To suppress low-frequency noise, the microphone is equipped with a low-cut filter and also has a presence boost. Both filter functions can be operated via a switch plate on the back of the SM7B. The integrated, air-cushioned shock absorber prevents almost any mechanical transmission. Also on board are two windscreens, which can be replaced as required and ensure clean recordings without plosive sounds. The robust swivel mount enables precise positioning with a secure hold.
