The Austrian Audio DMK1 is a drum microphone set in which each individual microphone has been deliberately developed and precisely tuned. Each model takes on a clearly defined tonal and technical task without pushing itself to the fore. The result is not a hodgepodge, but a self-contained system that reproduces a drum kit as a whole. All microphones are designed for consistency, high level stability and neutrality, without preformed sounds or stylistic specifications. The result is maximum control in the mix, both in the studio and on stage. Custom-fit mounts, windscreens and a waterproof touring case ensure that set-up, transportation and everyday use are just as reliable as the sound.
The OC B6 forms the foundation of the set. A large-diaphragm condenser microphone that was specially developed for bass drums and remains completely composed even at extreme levels. It processes up to 170 dB SPL without distortion, without a pad and without a fixed EQ. The sound remains open, deep and controlled, regardless of whether it's a modern Attack or a round, classic Kick . The integrated subsonic filter at 25 Hz keeps unwanted low frequencies out of the signal. The microphone head can be rotated 220 degrees for flexible placement in the shell, at the sound hole or directly in front of the bass drum.
For the hi hat, Austrian Audio relies on the CC8, a cardioid true condenser microphone with a handmade OCC7 capsule. It delivers clean transients, open highs and very controlled mids. Even at high levels, the sound remains stable and defined. The result is a hi hat that stands out clearly in the Mix without being harsh or masking other signals.
The three OC7 tom microphones are also designed as true condensers and respond extremely quickly to taps. The sound combines precise Attack with a full body and remains confident even with powerful playing. The high SPL stability ensures that the sound does not buckle, even with large shells and hard playing. Thanks to the 220 degree swivel joint, the microphones can also be positioned securely in tight setups. The result is toms that remain punchy, deep and cleanly controllable.
Two OC18s are used for the overheads. Cardioid large-diaphragm condenser microphones with CKR6 capsule and open acoustic design. They deliver airy highs, a stable low end and a very natural stereo image of the entire kit. Pad and high-pass filters are available directly on the microphone and make it easy to adjust the signal to the room, volume and playing style. The overheads sound balanced and spacious without artificially enlarging the Set.
The snare is picked up in the DMK1 by the OD5, an active dynamic microphone with ODC50 capsule. The sound is direct, focused and assertive, with a powerful Attack and firm body. At the same time, the hi hat spill remains controlled, which is particularly helpful live and for dense arrangements. The rotatable microphone head makes it easy to find the sweet spot quickly, even in unusual snare positions.
