Arturia Performance Synthesizer
With the AstroLab, Arturia presents a modern performance synthesizer that combines the best of 25 years of innovation, development and passion. AstroLab merges Arturia's innovative software instruments with studio- and stage-ready hardware. The hardware immediately stands out with its appealing design and well-organised control panel. The 61-key keyboard is semi-weighted and offers a very pleasant playing feel and channel aftertouch is also supported. Thanks to its dual multitimbrality, two sounds can be played and output simultaneously. In a live context, this may mean that one part is played manually while the other is triggered via a DAW. A split point can also be defined so that both parts can be played simultaneously on the keyboard. To the left of the central navigation wheel ,featuring a distinctive porthole-style design, are ten preset buttons for quick, direct access to sounds, along with four macro controls. Effects can be quickly adjusted using the four knobs and corresponding buttons. Features such as the flexible arpeggiator, chord mode and MIDI looper further underline the instrument's role as a stand-alone solution for live performance.
With the power of the V Collection
In terms of sound generation, AstroLab draws on ten different synthesis engines. These include virtual analogue, sampling, wavetable, FM, granular, physical modelling, vector synthesis, harmonic synthesis, phase distortion and vocoder processing. More than 1,000 sounds are preinstalled at the factory. If you connect AstroLab to a computer running Arturia Analog Lab Pro, you gain access to over 10,000 sounds. In other words, this synthesizer effectively puts the plug-ins from the Arturia V Collection at your fingertips. The four macro controls allow quick adjustments to key sound parameters. With 17 insert effects plus delay and reverb, you have everything you need to enhance your chosen sound. Of course, you can also import your own sounds. The operating concept is deliberately designed to provide instant access to countless sounds from these powerful engines. If you want to edit sounds more deeply, this can be done on a computer connected to the AstroLab.
An elegant eye-catcher
The futuristic exterior of AstroLab looks particularly premium thanks to the modern white design, the clean control surface and the elegant wooden side panels. All buttons are backlit, making orientation easier in dim lighting conditions. The rotary controls feature LED rings, and even the modulation wheel is equipped with an LED bar. A trigger LED above each key highlights the corresponding notes while playing and when receiving data from a DAW. The circular navigation wheel with OLED display primarily showing the selected engine and current preset is particularly well designed.
Professional connections
The rear panel of AstroLab is pleasingly versatile. In addition to the keyboard itself, there are pedal inputs for expression, sustain and two footswitches, expanding the instrument's expressive control options with standard pedals. MIDI connectivity is provided via MIDI In and Out ports as well as USB. This is ideal for anyone who wants to control additional equipment, such as a rack expander, with AstroLab. As a performance synthesizer, audio inputs are naturally included. On the input side, AstroLab features stereo line inputs in the form of XLR combo sockets, which are also suitable for microphone signals. For signal output, there is a balanced stereo pair with 6.3 mm jacks. The USB-C port is used for data exchange with a computer, while the USB-A port allows you to connect external storage (such as a USB stick) or an additional USB MIDI controller.
