The Rode VideoMic Me-L is an ultra-compact iOS plug-in microphone with an integrated preamplifier, 24-bit DA converter and Lightning connector. It is suitable for current iPhones and other iOS devices that no longer have a headset jack (requires iOS 11). The VideoMic Me-L uses a ½" cardioid condenser capsule with a forward leaning angle of about 90°. Sound signals from the side and rear are mostly rejected.
The VideoMic Me-L provides pre-amplification and digital conversion in 24-bit/48kHz. The recorded signal is transmitted digitally to the iPhone, thus bypassing the preamp of the iPhone, which noticeably increases the quality of the recording. A 3.5 mm headphone jack is located on the back of the microphone for immediate listening and control.
