The drum shell is a hybrid of 16 layers of maple, which are enclosed on both sides by four layers of walnut. Maple produces a very warm sound and walnut makes the tone very deep and bassy. The combination of the two woods creates a well-balanced basic sound. The shell's thickness of 24 layers of wood contributes to a very dry and crisp punch.
