The Super 6 Desktop from UDO Audio is the compact desktop version of the highly acclaimed keyboard synthesizer. Identical in design and suitable for installation in a 19" rack with optional mounting brackets, the compact instrument also presents itself as a 12-voice polyphonic, digital-analog hybrid synthesizer with binaural voice architecture. As a third option for positioning the Super 6 Desktop in the Studio , the underside of the housing offers the option of attaching a VESA mount, similar to those used for computer monitors. The high-quality control elements are a pleasure to use when adjusting the numerous parameters and at the same time stand for ease of use and great playing pleasure.
The Super 6 has two high-resolution digital oscillators that deliver sine, triangle, sawtooth, square and noise. In addition, oscillator 1 has 16 user wavetables and oscillator 2 has pulse width modulation. The oscillator section also offers pitch modulation via LFO and envelope, hardsync, Crossmodulation (FM), a sub-oscillator and an X-fade mode for mixing the tone generators. An analog 24 dB lowpass filter with a downstream, rigid highpass filter and a switchable, two-stage drive is used to process the rich sound spectrum. The VCA, which can be modulated by an LFO in addition to the envelope (tremolo effect), is just as analog.
Two different LFOs, two ADSR envelopes, the assignments for controllers such as aftertouch, Pitchbend and modulation wheel, as well as the comprehensive modulation matrix with several entries that can be stored in Patch provide plenty of movement in the sound. The Super 6 is also ideal for processing audio signals, as it has an audio channel with trigger function for driving the envelopes. The signal chain is rounded off with the two high-quality 24-bit stereo effects Delay and Chorus.
The arpeggiator can be played and the step sequencer programmed via an external MIDI keyboard. Both are extensively equipped and can of course be synchronized to the MIDI clock. In voice mode, the voices are assigned across the board; mono, legato, Unisono and two poly modes cover everything. If required, binaural voice distribution can be switched on for very dynamic and lively voice distribution in the panorama. The Super 6 has 128 memory locations for storing and recalling your own sounds. If you prefer to work with the controls, simply press the manual button and the sound you hear will match the current settings and behave like a classic analog sound.
Anyone who thinks they have recognized a "new Roland Jupiter-6" in this sea of faders can rest assured: visually and functionally, "UDO" is based on it, but in terms of sound it is in a completely different league. The Super 6 sounds modern-analog and noble-digital at the same time; but also a bit British in the best sense.
