The bolt-on neck made of roasted maple with its silky oil-wax finish and easy-grip C-profile creates the best conditions for classic and modern playing techniques.

Powerful neodymium pickup

As the pickup for the DarkRay 5-String Bass , Music Man has chosen the neodymium humbucker known from the StingRay Special. Thanks to the powerful magnetic material, the Bass pickup impresses with a powerful, yet precisely defined sound that skillfully translates every nuance in bass playing and also reproduces the B-string tightly.

Flexible Darkglass preamp

The eponymous highlight of the Music Man DarkRay 5 Bass is undoubtedly the extremely flexible Darkglass preamp, which can be used to create almost any sound for rock and metal. In addition to the always active 2-band equalizer for precise adjustment of the tone in bass and treble, the electronics offer two voicings inspired by the Alpha ∙ Omega pedal. While Alpha stands for a rich bass distortion, Omega delivers a poisonous fuzz in the best sense of the word for striking Bass lines. To customize the Distortion sounds, the DarkRay offers both a gain control and a blend pot for the Mix between clean and distorted signal. In addition, a multi-colored LED ring provides information about the selected voicing.

Indestructible Music Man hardware

Last but not least, indestructible hardware completes the DarkRay 5 Starry Night from Music Man. On the body, the classic vintage top-load bridge with five string saddles guarantees optimum adjustment of intonation and string action even with low drop tunings. Custom lightweight tuners behind the nut, whose compensated string rests promise perfect sound behavior of the strings played empty, also ensure high tuning stability.
