With the Electro Harmonix Bass MIcrosynth, Mike Matthews and his effect specialists from New York have created a handy synthesizer effect pedal that elicits never-before-heard bass sounds from the time-honored electric bass. The operation is particularly intuitive with ten clearly arranged faders in the Voice Mix and Filter Sweep sections.
The Voice Mix section shapes the basic sound of the Bass Microsynth. While the Guitar fader determines the volume of the clean signal, Sub Octave and Octave adjust the octaves generated above and below the played tone. Square Wave contributes dirty fuzz distortion in the best sense. The Trigger fader determines the input volume at which the Bass Microsynth starts working. In addition, the Attack Delay control selects the time it takes for the Voice Mix section to reach the set volumes.
The Filter Sweep section of the EHX Bass Microsynth is responsible for the typical synth sounds of this handy bass effect. Here, the Start Freq and Stop Freq faders select the range of the signal in which the filter sweep takes place. Resoance and Rate also select its width and speed.
