sonible smart:comp 3 is a modern software compressor that combines classic dynamics processing with intelligent analysis. Instead of struggling through endless parameter combinations, you work much closer to the musical goal. The plugin listens to the signal, understands its dynamics and opens up a clearly structured space of sensible compression options. Ideal for mixing, production and everything that needs to sound good quickly without becoming sterile.
Compression Matrix: See and hear dynamics
The Compression Matrix is at the heart of smart:comp 3. It translates technical compressor settings into musically comprehensible terms. Between snappy, punchy, dynamic and dense, you can move smoothly through different compression characters. Each position in the matrix represents a harmonious combination of attack, release, ratio and gain reduction. This allows you to quickly find the sweet spot for vocals, drums, Bass or synths without feeling like you're working against the compressor.
Spectral compression for clear results
Spectral Compression is a special tool in smart:comp 3. Here, the compressor not only reacts to the overall volume, but also distributes the gain reduction across the frequency spectrum. Problematic areas are controlled while important details are retained. The result is tidy and transparent, without any classic multiband fiddling. The plugin really comes into its own with complex signals or dense arrangements.
Input riding and musical timing
With Input Riding, smart:comp 3 compensates for slow level fluctuations even before the actual compression. This is reminiscent of clean fader riding, only automated and constant. The compressor can therefore work in a more relaxed manner and reacts more musically, especially with vocals, acoustic guitars or dynamic performances. This is complemented by various style options that determine the temporal behavior and tonal coloration of the compression, from clean and unobtrusive to energetic and direct.
Group editing for consistent mixes
smart:comp 3 also makes it easier to work with several tracks at the same time. Multiple instances can be combined into groups and controlled centrally. For example, you can control a drum set or polyphonic vocals together without having to touch each track individually. This saves time and ensures a cohesive sound in the mix.
Flexible use in the studio and live
Depending on the application, smart:comp 3 works either in a latency-free minimum phase mode or in linear phase for maximum phase coherence when mixing and on busses. Stereo and mid/side processing are also on board, as is a sophisticated sidechain section with spectral ducking for clean kick-bass relationships or transparent speech intelligibility.
