The Q Drum Co Kit

"This is the kit that really inspired the idea for the Custom Shop EZX collection. Jeremy at Q has been building some amazingly inventive drums for some time now. He can build more traditional maple or mahogany kits that Vintage sound, but are much more durable and roadworthy than a Vintage kit. And he only builds things that have a voice of their own. This kit is basically the same as the one Ilan Rubin had on the road for a while. I had to play it once and it pushed the floor under my feet away. I had never heard anything like it before, and frankly it looks incredibly cool! And this Q-Brass snare is so versatile. Sounds great at any pitch and just fits perfectly into a track."

The Craviotto Drum Co. Kit

"Johnny Craviotto was a legendary drum maker and the company that bears his name continues his legacy. Johnny built this kit, and it has a great combination of factors that give it its unique sound. The single-layer bowls present a focused pitch, the walnut provides a large, resonant tone, and the wooden temples offer a rounder touch than conventional steel temples. All these things come together to make this set a really beautiful instrument with a distinctive voice. I didn't want to give it back."

The Canopus kit

"The brushes of this Canopus maple kit sound incredible. The strange 15-inch depth at the kick really seems to shine. It doesn't quite sound like a 14, and it doesn't quite sound like a 16. I love it. Especially with the brushes, you could immediately think it's a jazz kit, and it obviously works great for it, but I also hear pop and hip-hop applications."

The Fibes kit

This Fibes set is a beauty. Only a light oil finish, so that nothing stands in the way of its resonance...and the Toms simply sing. The Made-in-Texas Fibes kick drums are real Monster with a Big-as-Texas sound, and the Closed Front Head option here just makes me happy. This kit contains an 8-inch deep solid cocobolo snare from MCD Percussion. It sounds murderous and it's just fun to say cocobolo!"

The Cymbals

"We have chosen a similar approach when selecting the pools. Although not made to order, both Bosporus UFIP and UFIP are handmade and the result of labor-intensive craftsmanship in small workshops. The Bosphorus material has a classic Turkish cymbal sound - dark with complex overtones and an earthy quality. Can something be dry and creamy at the same time? These cymbals sound like that to me sometimes. The UFIPs made in Italy are completely different and contrast beautifully with the tonal qualities of the Bosporus . They have a brighter tone with a sharper, more cutting stroke. The way these cymbals are spun in manufacturing means that they are thicker at the bell and thinner at the edge, even before turning, resulting in a heavier cymbal that still offers a musical stick response with a shimmer that is generally in a higher frequency range".
