AlphaTeta Chordcat at a glance

With Chordcat, AlphaTeta presents a compact groovebox that focuses on chords and harmony structures like no other device before it. The practical device combines an 8-track sequencer with numerous sounds and drum kits and a chord generator of unprecedented complexity. 145 sounds and 16 Drum kits covering various genres are stored so that you can get started straight away. For each track, you can customise the sounds with a lowpass filter and amp envelope. Effects include a clock-synchronised delay and ducker (for more dynamics). An arpeggiator with the usual playback patterns is integrated as a playing aid. The instrument is able to control external MIDI instruments; it is also possible to transfer notes directly to the DAW. In this way, computers and hardware musicians alike benefit from this opulent chord specialist.

An Eldorado for chords!

Chordcat is able to suggest up to 110,000 chord combinations with which you can create your own chord progressions. In Chord Cruiser mode, an exclusive algorithm selects several musically compatible chords from its database and suggests them. You can then listen to these chords and assign them to your favourites, which automatically generates the next chord suggestions. With this intuitive workflow, you can easily create original tracks that look like a greeting from a harmonic perspective.

Out of the box, Chordcat comes with 18 preset chord progressions - called chordsets - 13 of which are inspired by different music genres such as House and future Bass , while the remaining 5 are basic chord presets such as major and minor. These can be used as is or as a starting point for your own ideas.

With Chordcat, it is almost impossible to hit a wrong note. As soon as a key and scale is selected, only the notes that match the selected key and scale are displayed on the keyboard.
For example, if you set the key to E and the scale to minor blues, the notes of the E minor blues scale are displayed on the keyboard. This allows you to simply improvise because it is clear that all available notes blend harmoniously with the melody. The compatibility of the chords suggested in Chord Play mode or Chord Cruiser mode with the selected key and scale is indicated visually via LEDs. This helps both beginners and professional musicians and quickly leads to efficient and creative results.

The intuitive pattern sequencer

The sequencer offers space to let off steam musically on 8 tracks. Each track can store 16 patterns with an individual length of up to 128 steps (8 bars). Furthermore, you can choose from four playback directions, which, in combination with the Chords , can lead to interesting, opposing shifts. There is no song mode, but you can use pattern chain to create longer, alternating pattern sequences. The capacity is reduced to just one project, so you can open another project for a completely different Style and every new idea. With the practical Manager App you can easily import and export patterns between your computer and Chordcat.
