Behringer Waves at a glance

Waves from Behringer is a complex, digital modulator that can work as an LFO, VCO or envelope. Waves works differently to most LFOs or envelopes. First you select whether you need an attack/decay or attack/release envelope or an LFO. The parameters Shape and Slope are used to set the shape of the curve. Smoothness leaves the set waveform/curve shape largely untouched in the middle position, turning this control clockwise adds a Waveshaper , counterclockwise the control acts like a low-pass filter that rounds off the waveform.

It is therefore possible to set classic waveforms and AD/AR envelopes with the familiar progressions without any problems. In between are values and curves that you would expect from a well-equipped function generator or that go much further. The three speed ranges relate equally to the A/D/R times of the envelope modes and to the LFO. In Red mode, the frequency extends into the audio range, which qualifies Waves as an excellent oscillator.

There are four extremely interesting modes for the four outputs. Mode 1 outputs four different waveforms in parallel, mode 2 addresses the CV to the four outputs in sequence via Morphing , mode 3 shifts the phase position of output 1 a little further with each output, mode 4 is comparable to a frequency divider/adder. With five control voltage inputs with bipolar attenuators for the main parameters, and inputs for gate, 1V/oct and Clock , the module can be comprehensively controlled and modulated. Apart from the color scheme and the position of the sockets, Waves corresponds exactly to the original MI Tides.
