Elegant front end for small studios
The SPL Electronics Crescendo Duo V2 is the 2-channel version of the 8-channel Crescendo microphone preamplifier. Like the Crescendo, the Crescendo duo is built entirely in balanced 120V technology and therefore delivers excellent low noise values with an unrivaled high dynamic range. Its strengths are also its outstanding signal fidelity and clarity, which will bring out the character of your microphones in a completely new way. Compared to its 8-channel brother, the Crescendo duo offers an additional, finely tunable 10dB gain via the new, switchable output control and a high-pass filter at 120Hz (6dB per octave) via a further switch. At the rear, the output signal is provided on 2 XLR outputs per channel, eliminating the need for splitters and allowing the signal to be sent in parallel to various effects chains or a backup track to be created.
This preamplifier is an excellent option for small studios that only need a few microphone inputs but want to meet the highest quality standards.
The 120V technology
120V technology is SPL's reference technology. It is unique in the world of audio because it works with a DC voltage of 120 volts. This corresponds to four times the operating voltage of IC-based semiconductor operational amplifiers. The 120V technology achieves exceptional technical specifications and sonic advantages. Technically, in terms of dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio and clipping resistance. In terms of sound, in terms of richness of detail and an absolutely relaxed listening experience.
Most audio devices work with an internal operating voltage of +/-15 volts and can therefore process a maximum input level of +21.5 dBu. If a DA converter, for example, has an output level of +22 dBu at 0 dBFS, peaks in the music material would already cause clipping in the input stage of the device. All components in the audio device often work at their limits. The result is an unstable sound that causes stress and quicker hearing fatigue.
Thanks to the higher internal operating voltage of +/- 60 volts, SPL devices with 120V technology can process input levels of +32.5 dBu - in other words, they offer 12 dB more headroom. All components therefore work continuously in the optimum operating range. The result is a very pleasant, natural and relaxed sound experience.
