The Korg microAUDIO 722 is an audio interface for musicians who don't just want to record, but want to intervene specifically in the sound. It combines modern recording with genuine analog KORG DNA and is aimed at producers, synth nerds and sound designers who want to shape their sound before the DAW. Despite its compact design, there is much more to it than a classic 2 In 2 Out interface.
In terms of sound, the microAUDIO 722 performs at a professional level with up to 192 kHz and 24 bit. The converters work cleanly, openly and with sufficient headroom so that even dynamic signals remain natural and controlled. Two combo inputs (XLR / 6.35 mm jack) accept microphones, line signals or instruments with Hi-Z, while the globally switchable 48 V phantom power reliably supplies condenser microphones. The editor software can also be used to activate a Noise Gate and optionally a compressor or limiter to control the signal during recording. This processing can be applied not only to the inputs, but also to the computer sound.
The absolute highlight of the microAUDIO 722 is the integrated analog filter from the legendary miniKORG 700S. This filter works as either Lowpass or highpass and has the organic character that classic KORG synthesizers are famous for. The filter can be dynamically modulated via an integrated LFO or an envelope follower, even synchronized via MIDI. What is particularly exciting is that not only external signals, but also the computer's audio signal can be passed through the analogue filter. This makes the microAUDIO 722 a direct link between DAW and real analog processing, without complicated routing.
Thanks to the loopback function, computer signals can be easily recorded or further processed, for example for sampling, streaming or creative resampling setups with analog filters. Zero Latency Direct Monitoring ensures that the input signal reaches the headphones without delay during recording. The headphone output with 6.35 mm jack can be routed independently of the main outputs and is therefore also suitable for click tracks or cue signals. The stereo link function makes it much easier to control the level of Stereo sources such as synthesizers or Drum machines.
Another difference to the smaller model is theintegrated MIDI In and Out connection via mini jack. This allows the microAUDIO 722 to be easily integrated into Hardware setups and synchronized with external devices. Power is supplied via USB C, either via bus power or an external power supply unit. This means that the device can even be used as a stand-alone analog filter without a computer.
The package is rounded off with a comprehensive software bundle. Ableton Live Lite iZotope Ozone Elements offers a quick introduction to the DAW world, iZotope Ozone Elements supports the final sound and with KORG Filter Ark, a collection of classic and modern KORG filters is also available as a plug-in and stand-alone software.
