Tobinski Dual LPG/VCA in detail

The Dual LPG/VCA from Tobinski combines a low-pass gate (LPG) and a classic VCA in two independent sections. Each side offers audio inputs and outputs, a CV input, a level control and a button for switching between VCA and LPG functionality. A toggle switch selects how the LPG operates: as a gate, in combination mode or as a low-pass filter. The LPG circuit follows the original Buchla design, merging amplitude control with a low-pass filter. Its distinctive vactrol-based architecture produces a warm, organic sound with natural dynamics, perfect for the classic percussive "Buchla bongos" and other lively textures. The VCA mode takes inspiration from the Minimoog's VCA, known for its very fast response and highly dynamic control behavior.
