The Elektron Tonverk is a versatile creative hub for studio and stage: a polyphonic sampler, a flexible FX switcher and a radical routing lab in one device. Eight stereo audio tracks together with four bus tracks, three send effects and a mix track form the basis for complex signal paths - both internally and externally. You can choose between four "machines" per audio track: The Single Player plays WAV samples in mono or Stereo polyphonic, allows loop points and crossfades for seamless loops. The Multi Player loads multisample-based instruments from the extensive Library - or from your own recordings, which you can create automatically with the Auto Sampler via MIDI . With Subtracks, you can transform a track into eight monophonic, multitimbral subtracks, each with its own sequencer and individual parameters. Alternatively, you can switch a track to MIDI ; this option is also available on the bus tracks. There are two ways to record: the recorder for direct internal or external audio recordings and the aforementioned auto sampler for convenient multisampling of your favourite sound generators.
The modulation system is both deep and targeted: Two freely assignable LFOs, two FX LFOs and a modulation envelope are available per audio track; there are two further LFOs each at bus, send and mix level. Pitch bend, mod wheel, breath control and Aftertouch can be specifically assigned per track. The sequencer offers up to 256 steps per pattern and track, works polyphonically and supports parameter locks, microtiming, retrigs and trig conditions, including probabilities. Different pattern lengths and time-scale multipliers per track, separate sequencer lanes and a Arpeggiator for audio and MIDI tracks open up additional creative freedom. Two trig modes (tracks and velocity), a keyboard mode with 36 scales, a chord mode and a song mode are available for the performance.
A wide range of effects (depending on the track), including Comb± and filter bank processing, low and multimode filters, Infinite Flanger, Panoramic Chorus, Phase 98, Warble, Chrono Pitch, Frequency Warper, Compressor, Degrader, Dirtshaper, Daisy Delay, Saturator Delay as well as the Rumsklang and Supervoid reverbs, are used to shape the sound. An external input mixer with freely routable outputs integrates external signals seamlessly into your setup.
The Tonverk is ideally equipped on the connection side: Four ¼″ impedance-balanced outputs, two ¼″ balanced inputs and a ¼″ headphone output meet 48 kHz/24-bit AD/DA conversion. Two USB-C ports enable class-compliant USB audio, plus MIDI In/Out/Thru with DIN Sync-Out and an SD card slot. The Hardware is housed in a robust steel casing with 128×64 pixel OLED. Despite its features, the device remains compact (286 × 176 × 63 mm) and easy to transport (approx. 1.85 kg) and can be mounted versatilely thanks to 100×100 mm VESA holes (M4, ≤ 7 mm).
The scope of delivery includes a 64 GB SD card, the PSU-5 power supply unit, an Elektron USB-C cable and exclusive artwork. The package is rounded off with a 3-year Elektron warranty. The Tonverk is therefore the all-in-one solution for anyone who wants to combine sampling, effects, sequencing and complex routing without compromise.
With the two OS upgrades 1.1.0 and 1.2.1, Elektron has made good progress and brought TONVERK to the level that many would have wished for at the product launch. Numerous bugs have been fixed, the MIDI timing is finally stable and the operation now appears to be seamless, just as you would expect from Elektron. Undo/Redo and Pattern Mute, which are simply indispensable for this class of device. With Grainer Machine, Steel Box Reverb FX Machine and Filter Folder FX Machine, some features have been implemented that allow you to delve even deeper into sound creation.
