The Behringer 676 is a channel strip in 19" format (2U) that combines a classic tube preamplifier with an FET compressor. Based on a legendary Vintage channel strip design, this device delivers the characteristically warm and musical sound that has been appreciated in renowned studios for decades. Two high-quality tubes - 12AX7/ECC83S and 12AT7/6072 - provide finely graduated saturation and harmonic overtones, while the Midas transformers at the inputs and outputs convey a detailed and powerful sound.
The preamp offers input selection for microphone, line and Hi-Z signals with switchable impedance, a gain range of up to +64 dB as well as a switchable pad, phantom power and phase inversion. The sound is shaped via a 2-band shelving EQ with switchable frequencies (low: 70/100/200 Hz, high: 4.5/7/10 kHz) and a finely graduated boost/cut control in 1.5 dB steps up to ±9 dB. The subsequent compressor offers extremely fast attack times from 20 microseconds, a variable release time of up to 1100 milliseconds and a flexibly selectable ratio from 1:1 to all-in (more than 100:1) - ideal for precise transient control for vocals, Bass or drums. A switchable VU meter displays either gain reduction, the preamp output or the output level of the compressor and can be precisely adjusted using an internal calibration trimmer.
The split/join function allows the preamp and compressor to be operated either separately or in series - a flexible solution for different signal routings in a professional environment. The robust 2U rack housing offers space-saving integration in studio environments, while the integrated switching power supply with automatic voltage adjustment ensures a reliable power supply. All inputs and outputs are transformer-balanced and accessible via high-quality XLR connectors, ensuring the highest signal quality and compatibility.
With its authentic tube sound, fast compression architecture, versatile EQ and high-quality workmanship, the Behringer 676 offers a comprehensive and reliable solution for professional audio production at the highest level.
