Resurrection of a legend
The Synclavier Regen is not just any sound generator, but a piece of music history. The purely digital FM synthesizer was originally developed by Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, USA, and was sold in various versions from 1979. However, production was discontinued around 30 years ago for economic reasons. The reincarnation of this legend is the Synclavier Regen. It has been adapted to the requirements of our time and is also significantly more compact and cheaper than the original model, which is now a museum piece.
Ready for the studio and stage
With the size of a briefcase, the new version can easily be taken to any stage or studio. The color display, touch control and audio connections on the back ensure modern operation and can be connected to other equipment. A master keyboard can be connected via USB according to today's standards. In addition to the host USB port (DAW integration), there are four further USB ports and an SD card slot. The output signal is provided via balanced XLR sockets or unbalanced jack sockets.
High-tech transformation of a classic
Technically, however, the Syclavier Regen is clearly ahead of its "great-grandfather from the 70s", even though it is based on the DSP engine of the Synclavier II. The maximum 98-voice synthesizer is 12-fold multitimbral (simultaneous layering of up to 12 tones) and comes with several synthesis forms. In additive synthesis, 24 harmonics can be controlled, while in subtractive synthesis, which was developed for rain, PCM squares, super sawtooths or noise waveforms can be generated. Furthermore, the use of samples as carrier waveforms is possible via a separate envelope control. The 250 included timbre presets illustrate the breathtaking possibilities offered by the device (two further libraries are also included). There are 24 LFOs and 24 envelopes available per timbre, something the developers could hardly have dreamed of in the early years of digital technology. The user takes a "journey through time with high-tech means".
Details that matter!
Dynamic effects can be applied to each individual tone, which are layered as a complete sound. In addition to MPE, polyphonic aftertouch is also supported. The on-board tools also include a modulation section and other effects to give you full control over the shaping of the sound. With its color screen and well-organized control sections, the desktop housing enables an intuitive workflow, which means that there are virtually no limits to your own creativity.
Synclavier Regen Knob at a glance
The Regen Knob is a modern replica of the original knob of the old NED Synclavier II synthesizer from 1977. The weight and feel of the knob are identical to those of the historical original, as the same dimensions (5cm diameter) and a balanced spring mechanism have been used. The knob itself is made from a solid piece of aluminum. The precise data wheel is not only an authentic way of controlling the Regen, but also an efficient method of shaping the sound. While the left hand stays on the knob, the right hand flies over the synthesizer's control panel, allowing you to adjust parameters by ear in smooth transitions. The Regen Knob comes with a bracket and screws to attach it to the side of the Synclavier Regen. It can also be used individually.
