Passive Filters

The Passeq owes its beautiful sound characteristics to the entire passive filter (variable resistor, capacitor and coil). High-quality components, the charging behaviour of the capacitors and the saturation behaviour of the coils combined result in the desired sound of many mastering engineers.

The relative inertia compared to potentially fast active filters is the reason for the pleasant and very musical sound characteristics. SPL itself would describe them as"smooth, transparent, silky and with full-bodied basses".

Q & Mid Range Cut

Musical-sounding curves - that was the goal in the construction of this high-quality mastering equation. And this is exactly what the manufacturer succeeded in doing without having to make any compromises: While Pultec EQs from the 50s and 60s still had to struggle with high background noise and a very limited frequency selection, the Passeq now offers the exact opposite;

The mid-range cut band starts working at 200 Hz with new, specially manufactured coils. This means that the center bands are even more harmonious for sum processing than in the previous model.

The large and rastered output control now allows boost or cut of up to 10 dB to respond to subsequent studio equipment at the perfect working level.

Simple recall

To make the recall of all parameters easier, Gain, Q (HF+) and output were equipped with rasterized potentiometers in 41 steps. All other parameters are switched via 12 position switches, so that the perfect recall of all settings is easy to realize.

Auto Bypass & Interval

For more convenience in mastering and as with all new SPL mastering devices, the Passeq also features an autobypass. Of course, the channels can be deactivated and activated manually via large illuminated buttons, but the automatic process saves the step. Even a freely selectable time window can be set.

Air Band

Here, too, a file was filed in comparison to the predecessor. Another highlight is the HF+ band extended by the frequencies 25 kHz and 35 kHz. A short test and you don't want to miss this feature any more
