After Later Audio Rainier at a glance

Rainier by After Later Audio is the extended version of the popular Mutable Instruments Peaks Modulator, which acts as an envelope, LFO or drum synth. The extension gives the module unimagined flexibility, finally, there is a separate CV input with attenuator for each of the four knobs and even the two CV outputs are equipped with attenuators. The latter is especially useful when the inverted voltage of an envelope or LFO is needed. Otherwise, everything is the same as with Peaks, Pique and 1U Pique. The module offers two channels that can be used simultaneously, either as ADSR envelope, LFO, tap/clock LFO or bass drum/snare voice. The trigger inputs require either a clock signal or gate/trigger, depending on the mode. In the (free-running) LFO, a Gate is only needed for a Reset . The high density of functions is implemented quite coherently with surprisingly few controls, thanks in part to the three control modes Twin, Split and Expert.

In Twin mode, channel 1 and 2 share the same parameters, but can be triggered independently. In Split mode, channel 1 is processed with controls 1&2 and channel 2 with controls 3&4, in addition with a simplified 2-parameter control scheme. In Expert mode, both channels can be adjusted completely independently. The ALA Rainier comes from the factory with the "Dead Man's Catch" firmware, which provides more and above all even more interesting modulations. On top of that, alternative Drum sounds are implemented, which are more FM and random-oriented.
