Tangrams by Intellijel is a dual ADSR envelope with VCA functionality and a pulse generator. The two envelopes have the typical parameters attack, decay, Sustain and Release, three-time ranges and the percussive character of the envelopes of Roland SH-101 and System 100m. Each envelope is triggered by its own gate input, with Gate 1 normalized to 2. More dynamic control is promised by the VCA input, to which one usually patches the velocity/accent CV from the sequencer or a MIDI to CV/Gate interface. Alternatively, an audio signal can be fed in here, the level of which is controlled by the envelope; the CV output becomes the audio output at that moment.

The pulsers generate a separate trigger for each envelope, adjustable from 1 millisecond to 16 seconds. The time ratio can also be modulated via control voltage. In addition, there are different combination possibilities in which envelope reacts to which pulser, a superior cycle mode and pinging of the start torque. In Tangrams the pulsers merge with the two envelopes (if required). This way you can configure a looped ADSR that has a gate time different from the interval between the Gates . Alternatively, you can create a mega-envelope of eight stages, where ADSR2 is triggered with a time delay after ADSR1 is triggered (either cyclically or in single mode). Also possible are cyclic-organic envelope progressions which are rarely heard in this complexity. With this Intellijel takes up the idea of the trapezoid generator, which is an intermediate between envelope and LFO. The trapezoid generator can be found in retro classics like the EMS VCS3, EMS Synthi AKS and modern interpretations like the Erica Synths Syntrx.
