Basil from Bastl Instruments is a digital stereo delay with an unusually versatile range of applications. The sound character ranges from clean to super lo-fi with a delay time of up to four seconds. Thanks to the sync socket, Basil can be synchronized to Clock . The feedback control has two sides: simple Feedback and the ping-pong mode, a delight in stereo patches!
The delay buffer can be modulated and makes it possible to emulate most classic time-based effects such as chorus, flanger, vibrato, Pitch shifter, Reverb and even stereo spread and to switch between them with a few simple steps.
The Space section opens the doors to sounds that go far beyond simple delay territory. Although implemented purely digitally, it sounds more like a BBD Reverb that works with even or odd tap taps and processes the reverb tail with a high/low pass filter.
Speed mode produces octave jumps, noisy ambient washes, glitches and distorted drones. The 1V/octave control enables Karplus-Strong synthesis at high feedback values. This makes Basil one of the most versatile delay specialists on the market. The bipolar CTRL control with CV input can be assigned to almost any parameter, and there are even more under the hood. This means that the module remains compact despite its wealth of functions and can be adapted to the new situation with a flick of the wrist. Signal processing takes place in stereo, the audio input also accepts mono signals thanks to the normalized left channel, the audio output is always stereo.
