With the PRS HDRX 20, Paul Reed Smith and amp designer Doug Sewell present a top-class tube amp for electric guitar that was created after intensive analysis of Jimi Hendrix's personal tour amp from the Woodstock era. Built entirely analogue and with carefully matched components, the "Authentic Hendrix Touring Circuit" reproduces the unmistakably dynamic and brilliant sound of a British amp with bridged channels more authentically than any other and is accordingly perfect for classic styles between Blues and rock.
For the construction of the "Authentic Hendrix Touring Circuit" PRS relies exclusively on carefully selected components of the highest quality to achieve a direct and particularly detailed sound image that lets every played note shine without appearing harsh or biting. Accordingly, three selected 12AX7 tubes are used in the preamp of the tube amplifier, while two 5881 tubes and the custom-designed straight edge output transformer promise powerful sounds of British colouration in the 20-watt power amplifier.
Like the original from the Woodstock era, the HDRX 20 has separate treble and bass channels, but they are already bridged at the factory. Using the treble and bass volume controls, they can be mixed continuously to provide a wide range of sounds from brilliant cleans to juicy Overdrive with a well-dosed bite. In addition to the three-position Bright switch for the Treble channel, the guitar amplifier from PRS has a classic tone stack, a "High-Mid Gain" switch and a Presence control for adjusting the timbre.
