The ART SOLO VLA is a single-channel compressor with selectable tube or solid-state circuitry for dynamic processing. It has variable threshold, ratio, Attack and release values, each of which can be set using the corresponding gridded controller, which also enables quick recall. The SOLO VLA also has a blend control on board, which allows the unaltered signal to be fed back into the output. This offers the possibility of integrating a portion of the original signal while at the same time applying intensive compression, making the soundtrack fuller and more dynamic(parallel compression). The device also has a bypass switch that enables A/B comparisons. The backlit VU meter on the right-hand side of the SOLO VLA is used to visually check the level and gain reduction.
The inputs and outputs are located on the rear of the device, each with a three-pin XLR and a 6.35 mm jack socket. The level modes are also set at the rear. A button has been installed for this purpose, which can be used to change the level mode between +4dBu and -10dBV. When changing the level mode, attention should be paid to the changing technical specifications.
The Solo VLA is designed as a soft knee leveling amplifier. Despite its ability to produce pronounced compression effects, the Solo VLA has been specially designed for applications where transparent and expressive musical dynamics control is preferred. With a frequency range from 20Hz to 80kHz, it also offers a very wide range of frequency processing.
