The Qu-Bit Electronix Nautilus at a glance

Nautilus by Qu-Bit Electronix is a special stereo delay effect whose algorithm is inspired by nautical audio events. In terms of philosophical approach, Nautilus is a submarine stereo delay network that offers every imaginable delay from deep ocean trenches to shimmering tropical reefs, as well as some variations no one has thought of yet. The module is inspired by the way sounds are used to communicate as well as measure and map the underwater world; both by humans and their inhabitants. Just as sonar detection both reveals and alters the perception of the environment, Nautilus uses its complex delay network to create a sonic topography that can be experienced through the module's technical capabilities.

      Use

Technically, Nautilus is in its main feature a complex Stereo delay with deep editing and unique combination possibilities. First of all, Nautilus offers the four Stereo configurations Normal, Ping Pong, Cascade and Adrift, which already have a significant effect on the overall sound behaviour. With the four delay modes, you determine how the Delay effect should sound; Fade (fading between delay times), Doppler (varispeed effect when changing the delay frequency), Shimmer (increases the delays and an octave and is fed back into the delay lines, and continues to increase with each pass.) and De-Shimmer (Pitched the delays and an octave down and fed back into the delay lines, and pitched further down each pass.) are available here. There are also up to eight codependent Delay lines with up to 20 seconds of audio buffer. Each of these delay lines can be given one of six effects; 24dB Lowpass filter, 24dB Highpass filter, bitcrusher, saturator, Wavefolder and Distortion are available here. That's a lot of functionality for delay module, the sonic results speak for themselves and are often beyond what you thought you knew from delay effects so far.

      Full control

In order for the nautical-like sound to move in a musically meaningful context, the module is equipped with a clock input and can be manually integrated with the tap tempo button. A total of eight parameters with CV inputs allow spontaneous access to the sound action. Two additional gate inputs for Freeze and Purge along with dedicated buttons further expand the spectrum of the effect module. The Sonar jack is configurable via the web app and generates CV or Gate signals that originate within the delay network.

      Practical web editor

Thanks to the web app available for free at Qu-Bit, Nautilus is quickly adaptable to new circumstances. This includes function assignment of the knobs, configuration of the sonar signal output, setting the control range for each parameter, shimmer/de-shimmer Pitch Shift settings and much more. The transfer to the module is done via included USB stick.
